PITREAVIE AAC star Eilidh Doyle has won a silver medal in the 400 metre hurdles at the Commonwealth Games this morning.
The 31-year-old, who led Team Scotland into the Gold Coast competition after being selected as their flag bearer, produced a superb performance to finish second ahead of South Africa's Wenda Nel.

That's Scotland's 34th medal of #GC2018 which makes this the second highest medal tally at any Games - behind only Glasgow 2014! #TeamScot2018 pic.twitter.com/zKkZVymylK
The Olympic 4x400m relay bronze medallist, who had won silver medals in the hurdles at Delhi in 2010 and Glasgow four years ago, had to dig deep to secure a place on the podium in a race packed with high-class athletes.
Doyle faced a much tougher proposition than on that glorious night at Hampden Park in 2014 but was given a favourable lane draw, running in lane three.
In an exciting race, she delivered a fine display that ended strongly to move into second behind pre-race favourite, Janieve Russell of Jamaica, who took gold in 54.33 seconds.
Doyle, Scotland's most decorated athlete of all-time, held off the challenge of Nel to win silver in 54.80, 0.16 seconds clear of her nearest rival.
She'll have the chance of winning another medal this weekend when the 4x400m relay takes place.
