ABERDOUR'S shinty stars maintained their unbeaten start to South Division One after a hard-fought stalemate with Glenorchy on Saturday.

Lisa MacColl's team pressed hard and created the majority of openings throughout the match, but despite being unable to make the breakthrough, the point gained keeps them second in the table just two points behind leaders Lochside Rovers having played two games less.

The 'Dour coach felt her players showed signs of promise despite their Balliemore Cup exit at National Division Caberfeidh last time out, commenting that if they could improve on certain aspects of their game that saw them fall short, they would be in a good position to challenge for promotion.

The West Fifers had the better chances during the opening period at Mart Park and their pressure continued after the break, with Jack Mitchell twice seeing efforts turned away well by the Glenorchy goalkeeper.

It ended goalless however and Aberdour are a point clear of third placed Taynuilt, who they meet in a 2.30pm throw-up at Silver Sands on Saturday.

Meanwhile the club's second team saw their recent revival take a dent as they were narrowly beaten at Bute in South Division Two.

After beginning the campaign with seven defeats in all competitions, Craig Callaghan's young side picked up their first league win at Glasgow Mid Argyll last week after a Bullough Cup success at Dunoon.

But in a close encounter at the Meadows, Neil McKirdy's 14th minute goal was enough to separate the sides and move the hosts four points clear of Aberdour.

The seconds face a repeat of their Bullough Cup tie this weekend at Dunoon on league duty. Throw-up is at 2.30pm.
