A NUMBER of young swimmers from the InCAS club competed at the annual Cumbernauld Spring Graded Swim Meet, winning three gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

There were also other awards, 24 top six finishes and a magnificent 54 lifetime best times.

Eleven-year-old Sam Harrison took top honours with a gold medal in the 200 metres Individual Medley (IM) in 2:54.06, a massive personal best (PB), and also won silver in the 100m back crawl in 1:26.45 (PB) and a bronze in the 50m front crawl in 33.61 (PB).

Amy King, nine, had a superb day of competition with two bronze medals in the 200m IM and 50m fly (both PBs); while 10-year-old old Ellice Forker also had an excellent day with silver in the 100m fly and a fourth-place medal in the 200m IM (both PBs).

Sophie Ingram, 11, won a bronze in the 100m breaststroke (PB) and was fifth in the 100m front crawl.

Two eight-year-old girls competing in one of their first competitions were Niamh Kirkbright, finishing sixth in the 200m IM, and Sorcha Morrison, fifth in the same race. Both girls achieved five PBs from five races each.

Also having a super day were eight-year-old Evie Graham with four massive PBs from four swims and nine-year-old Rebecca Owens, with three PBs from three swims.

Twelve-year-old Zach Kirkbright had an outstanding day with two gold medals in the 50m front crawl in 30.23 (PB) and 200m IM in 2.46.35 (PB). He also won ‘Too fast’ awards in his other two events, the 100m front crawl in 1:05.99 (PB) and 100m back crawl in 1:15.07 (PB) and was also awarded the Top Overall Male.

All of Zach’s times were qualifying times for the Scottish National Age Group Championships in April.

Erin Hutton, 12, also had a very good day with a silver medal in the 100m fly in 1:28.33 (PB) and bronze in the 200m IM in 3:02.74, winning a fifth-place medal in the 100m back crawl.

Team-mate Mia Walker, also 12, swam to her best with two fourth-place finishes in the 100m breaststroke and 200m IM and a fifth place in the 100m fly – all PBs.

Scottish Disability swimmer Cara Smyth, 13, won a fourth-place medal in the 100m fly with four PBs, while 14-year-old Rachel Ingram won a fifth-place medal in the 100m breaststroke (PB).

Other swimmers who competed and achieved PBs were 13-year-olds Katelyn MacNeil and Cerys Venters-Scott.
