HILLEND swim star Tain Bruce warmed up for this week’s Olympic trials by winning gold at the Scottish National Age Group Championships.
The 17-year-old Inverkeithing High School pupil turned on the style to take top honours in the girls’ 17 and over 200m butterfly in a winning time of 2:14.53, which was 2.44 seconds quicker than second-placed Meg Finnon of South Lanarkshire.
It was the ideal preparation for a return to the Tollcross International Swimming Centre on Tuesday for Tain, who will take to the pool alongside a glittering array of British stars at the British Swimming Championships.
Big names such as Ross Murdoch, Hannah Miley and Adam Peaty will be among those looking to book their place on the plane for Rio, with the championships set to determine who will swim for Team GB at this year’s Olympic Games.
Three categories of finals will take place; the open final, which will determine the Rio qualifiers; the ‘Target Tokyo’ final, for men born between 1996-1999 and women born between 1997-2000; and the junior final, which will have European Junior Championship qualification up for grabs.
