CAROLINE WEIR has said she is "really excited" to have completed a move to Manchester City.

The Dunfermline-born star signed a two-year contract with the Blues on Friday after leaving their FA Women's Super League One rivals Liverpool.

Scotland international Caroline, 22, joined the Merseysiders in January 2016 from Bristol having previously played for Hibernian and Arsenal.

The national team's player of the year in 2016, she scored six goals for the Reds last season and, last year, was shortlisted for the PFA Players Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards.

In March, Pars fan Caroline was also nominated for the FIFPro 2017 Women's World XI and joins a City side that will play in the Champions League next season.

Speaking to Manchester City's website, she said: "I'm really excited to be here. It's a great club and I'm really delighted to be a part of it.

"City are leading the way in the women's game in so many different ways.

"There are so many great players here and I think it's a challenge to compete for trophies and try to improve - which is what brought me here."

Caroline, who won her 50th international cap during April's World Cup qualifying win over Poland, returns to action with Scotland on Thursday evening.

Shelley Kerr's team tackle Belarus in their next qualifier at the Falkirk Stadium before the return clash with Poland takes place on Tuesday June 12.

Kick-off for the Belarus match is at 7.35pm.
