A SENSE of calm is coming to Kelty with plans approved for a new yoga centre on Main Street.

Morag Wilson's application to change the use of the property, previously a takeaway restaurant, was backed by Fife Council.

The international yoga master said her Jyoti Yoga and Wellness Centre will be open Monday to Sunday, between 7am and 10pm, with classes for up to 14 people at a time.

A council report said: "It is expected that, in the round, the proposed use would give rise to no significant increased impact in terms of parking and road safety compared to the existing lawful use as a restaurant."

Jyoti is a yoga teacher training school which was founded in 2016.

The premises they're moving into at 12 Main Street was previously used by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Despite a petition signed by hundreds of local people, the branch in Kelty closed in 2015 and the building was later put up for auction.

In March 2020 Savas Kilic's change of use application, from bank into takeaway restaurant, was approved by the council but it didn't prove successful.

The council report on the yoga centre said the ATM, which has remained, will soon be removed and "improve the architectural symmetry of the front elevation".

However the local authority recently approved Natwest's application to upgrade the cash machine.
