Deep Sea World have welcomed eight Lesser Spotted Catsharks to the North Queensferry aquarium.

The catsharks arrived at the aquarium on Wednesday, January 10 from Rhyl SeaQuarium in North Wales.

This type of shark is one of the abundant sharks that exist in British waters. It is mainly active at night and eats molluscs, small crustaceans, and worms. Their backs are brownish with dark stains and their first dorsal fin is closer to the tail than to the head.

The Zoo Team at Deep Sea World commented: “We are deeply saddened to hear of a fellow aquarium closing and we are very pleased to be able to help them rehome some of their creatures following this unfortunate conclusion”.

These eight sharks will be introduced to the rockpools and main underwater tunnel to join the aquarium’s other sharks. Some of Deep Sea World’s other residents include a Banded Catshark, Bamboo Catshark, Bull Huss and Sand Tiger Sharks.
