In April, a fire at Khushi's Indian restaurant in Dunfermline left the owner "devastated".

The blaze took hold on an upper floor of the building, on the corner of St Margaret Street and Canmore Street, on the evening of April 21.

Riaz Mohammed, owner of Khushi's, said: "We are incredibly thankful that no-one was hurt but both the restaurant and the building itself have been severely damaged.

"Our sincerest thanks go out to the fire crews and emergency service personnel who bravely extinguished the fire and ensured everyone's safety during the incident."

Road closures were in place until June while a number of premises in the area had to shut while safety checks were carried out.

Mr Mohammed later confirmed there was "very little salvageable" from the restaurant and added: "There's no question, this will be a long road to recovery but every journey starts with the first steps and to know we are recovering with your support makes all the difference.

"We are incredibly grateful for the messages of support we've received and continue to receive from our friends, community and neighbours it really means the world to us right now."

The fire was so severe that, eight months on, the restaurant remains closed albeit there are plans to re-open on a reduced scale.

The neighbouring nightclub, Lourenzo's, also shut because of the fire and it too has yet to re-open.
