PLANS for a new takeaway in Halbeath have been approved by Fife Council.

It will go in one of the vacant units at Pittsburgh Retail Park, which is already home to Burger King, Costa and Greggs.

Mr Kwok Wai Lau, of Dalgety Bay, got the go-ahead to change the use of the premises from retail to hot food takeaway.

Alterations to the shop unit will include the installation of a new door and aluminium panel at the front and an extraction grille to the rear.

The proposed operating hours are 4pm to 11pm, Monday to Sunday.

One of the planning conditions states that noise from the takeaway must not exceed certain limits.

Plans to bring Burger King and Costa to Halbeath, on land between the A907 dual carriageway and Main Street, were revealed in the Press in March 2020.

The development has transformed a tired and rundown part of the village - previously used for a filling station, car wash and valet business, that also included some woodland and a storage area - into a slick new retail park.

And it's had a knock-on effect with the old eyesore Hotel Roma, which was empty and falling to bits, finally demolished and the site cleared for a new Stephens drive-thru to open in November.
