PROPOSALS for a new Co-op on Aberdour's High Street have been shelved with a Greens Retail store set to open there instead.

It's five years since Fife Council granted planning permission to knock down a car garage and former cottages and replace it with a £550,000 investment in a store that was to bring 12 jobs to the village.

The Co-op gave an opening date of November 2021 but that came and went and it never did open, with the company insisting that the plans had not been "finalised or confirmed"

Now Greens Retail have confirmed they will be opening in Aberdour - the firm previously took over from the Co-op in Crossford - although they were less certain about a date when doors will open.

Jayson McDonald, the social media & marketing executive of Glenshire Group, told the Press: "In 2021 the Co-op planned on opening its doors in Aberdour but plans had fallen through and there has been high demand ever since, from locals, as there is only one other small convenience store in the area.

Dunfermline Press:

"We are extremely pleased to announce that Greens Retail is opening its doors as 'Greens of Aberdour' in the following months!"

The firm said they run "award-winning convenience stores and post offices" throughout the country.

Jayson added: "The store is part of the Greens chain with over 21 sites across Scotland and will stock the likes of the award winning Fisher & Donaldson’s cakes and pies, Costa Express, Skwishee frozenated (frozen-fizzy) slushies, a range of foods, alcohol, confectionery, every day essentials and much more!"

While an exact opening date and number of jobs are yet to be confirmed, the brand hopes to have its doors open this summer.

A flyer in the village says they are looking for shop assistants, team leaders and managers and CVs and covering letters can be emailed to caroline.cunningham@glenshire.co.uk
